Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption in the gut and maintains adequate serum calcium and phosphate concentrations to enable normal bone mineralization and to prevent hypocalcemic tetany (involuntary contraction of muscles, leading to cramps and spasms). It is also needed for bone growth and bone remodeling. When combined with calcium, vitamin D helps protect older adults from osteoporosis.

Vitamin D has other roles as well, such as reduction of inflammation and helping with such processes as cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function, and glucose metabolism.

The body makes vitamin D when direct sunlight converts a chemical in your skin into an active form of the vitamin (calciferol).

 Other ingredients: Rice powder, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, vegetable magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, calcium carbonate, and calcium phosphate.
